America is Not America Anymore

America is not America anymore
no more golden doors, no lanterns
lit to welcome the tired and sick
America is not America anymore
we no longer open our arms, never
to lend a helping hand, we have ravaged
foreign lands, and we dare immigrant
children to want better.
America is not America anymore
our politicians lie and steal from us
they serve themselves a better plate
than they will ever serve us upon.
Politicians create laws to mask their
deceit, while the middle-class slips
into obscurity. Our children
are sick and dying, hungry and
homeless.
America is not America anymore
because we have dared not
challenge our leaders to do more
for us, or leave office. We have dared
not command that we receive the answers
we need for health insurance, proper
wages, all because we dared not make
America be America again, and for that
we no longer take the sick and the weak,
because it is not Ellis Island, but a river,
or a fence, we now turn
a blind eye to those most in need,
children.
America can be America again, but we
the people for the people must demand
a change at the lowest and the highest
levels of our government. We must start
to fight for that change today, or America will never be America again!
