Gunslingers: Murder in the First
How many times do these cops wash their hands, trying to remove the blood of our children’s souls from their fingers? Too many parents have to identify their child on a cold slab. Yesterday he was eating dinner at their table. Is society ever going to get sick enough to demand better treatment for our people, or is this just another symptom of being black in America?
How many flowers have we placed on memorials because gunslingers execute our sons wearing a badge! Then they give him or her three months of paid vacation while they mock the investigation. The gunslinger returns to work with a great tan and his gun.
Once again, the cost of a bullet measures our lives. Maybe every man has the inalienable rights as put forth in the Constitution, but the only absolute in black America is senseless death.
I will say this: America has never been America to us.
We have been on this land forever; our wives and daughters raped on this soil, our sons sold on this land, denied rights on this land, and all the while we built this land.
Slavery did not end with the Emancipation Proclamation!
It went underground. Though the authorities broadcast racial equality publicly, individuals spent their lives facing the brutality of living while black and opposition at every turn.
We refuse to be sheep and serve any man. We walked out of slavery because every black woman gave birth with the same prayer: “We will walk free one day.”
There will come a time when we will stand up and roar. Perhaps the blue wall will come to understand that they created a brown wave to cleanse this land of the evil hate we deal with daily.
One day the gunslinger will come face to face with justice, equality, and maybe, America might look like America to us.
