Snow Walkers

We became less in the eyes of the world, but we became more as we struggled against the oppressive hatred of the world.

You cannot enslave another being unless you recognize you are less.

You must recognize your face in the reflected pain of others.

We have bent plow blades in the heat of summer.

Walked on frozen ground, under the will of a searing whip!

Strangled by hard ground in winter and suffocating in the sweltering heat of summer.

We are the descendants!

Not of slaves!

We are African!

We are a people who watched a plague invade our shores and decimate our people.

Coronavirus is a pandemic that went unchecked.

Slavery, too, was a pandemic that went unchecked.

Like slavery, COVID will linger in the collective consciousness of society forever.

We are snow walkers climbing mountains built by others.

Fighting a pandemic for four hundred years in Africa and on every continent.

Searching for a cure for racism!
